Youth Exhibit Skills Through 4-H Fairs

3030 Youth Exhibit Skills through Six 4-H Fairs!

For the first time in three years the Pike County 4-H fairs were held in six locations to make the fairs accessible to all 4-H members.  The Pike County Extension Council identified the acquisition of skills for the workplace as a need.  The 4-H Projects gave these youth the opportunity to exhibit the skills they learned through their projects.

Six high schools in Pike County served as hosts for the 4-H fairs.  Two hundred and nineteen adults supervised the youth during the days of projects and fun activities at the high schools.  4-H Teens served as leaders as youth were on the floor doing games and activities.  One teacher said, “This is the first field trip that they have had in three years.   They are so excited.”  The 4-H Fairs involved the use of the gymnasium and the coordination of lunches and transportation to the sites from the feeder schools.  The support of the schools is amazing.

One parent, Donavan LIttle told me, “I enjoyed spending time with my child in doing a project.  I had been a 4-H woodworking champion and so was my daughter.  She is now going to law school.”  Another parent, and District Extension District Board Member, Neil Hunt stated, “I am so glad that my daughter Kaitlyn is learning about bees.  I am so proud that she is learning the skillset that I have learned through bee keeping.”

4-H is making the best better through these projects and activities.
