Dieting is nothing new to the U.S., but various diets fly in and fade away. So, what’s trending? What really works? Ketogenic, Whole 30, Paleo and Intermittent Fasting are just a few of the popular diets trending on many social media platforms.
The Powell County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent partnered with the University of Illinois Extension to facilitate the Exploring Diet Trends program for Kentucky Extension Homemakers.
This program explained the pros and cons of several of the popular diets that are currently trending as well as the evidence and the safety of these diets. Bluegrass Area Homemaker leaders participated in a training program where they were given the materials to take back and teach their local clubs.
Eight counties facilitated the Exploring Diet Trends program.
- 100% of participants reported an increased awareness of popular diet trends such as Ketogenic, Whole 30, Paleo, and Intermittent Fasting.
- 100% of participants reported an increased ability to identify potential red flags of a diet plan.
- 100% of participants reported an increase in knowledge about healthy eating plans, such as MyPlate, Mediterranean and DASH eating plans
