Plan of Work: Green and Sustainable Living
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Fayette County has had a successful Environmental Camping Program for many years. Unfortunately, like many things, Covid has caused our number of participating schools to drop. Many of our schools still wish to participate in the program but due to school specific regulations were not able to attend the overnight environmental camp as they have in the past. In partnership with the North Central Camp Staff, we have been able to provide an extended day program which offers many of the same classes and activities as the original overnight experience. Being able to offer the extended day program has allowed for two additional schools to participate when they overwise would not have. The two additional schools are bringing/have brought a total of 145 students and 14 adult volunteers. Each student or parent who through this program may have been exposed to 4-H for the first time. The environmental camping program also meets one of our major program goals as outlined in our plan of work. Students as well as parents will learn from class topics including KY Mammals, Animal tracks, Low Ropes, Nature Hike, Enviroscapes, Lake study, Canoeing, Butterflies/caterpillars, and owl pellets. This program will help to change, knowledge, opinions, skills and / or aspirations in understanding of issues related to going green, water and energy conservation, and environmental education.
