Plan of Work: Increasing Agriculture Awareness and Profitability
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
As anyone could guess, the last few years have been extremely challenging for everyone. Farmers have certainly not been immune to any of those challenges. In fact, within the last few months those challenges have multiplied mainly because of the drastic increase in inputs (Fertilizer, chemicals, etc.). And of course, when those increase then the bottom lines of the farmers are affected and eventually the consumers down the line. As a result of those issues, I felt the need to offer a Farm Management workshop that would focus on things to consider when facing tough financial times in the Agriculture Industry. The workshop was held on February 22,2022 at the Hart County Extension office. Our speaker was Jonathan Shepherd from the University of Kentucky Ag Economics department. Considering his previous work with the Kentucky Farm Business Analysis program I felt he would be the best speaker for the workshop.
There were twelve attendees that attended the program (11 males, 1 female). As a result of the program 83% of those that attended felt that they were better equipped to manage their operations in the future. Similarly, 50% of those that attended were likely to make changes to their farm management as a result of what they learned at the workshop. All twelve participants stated that they would like to see a similar program available in the future.
