The Expanded Food and nutrition Education Program and the Pike County Cooperative Extension Service have partnered with West Care Rehabilitation, nonprofit organization whose services include both substance and mental abuse and addiction treatment 

By using the Healthy Choices for Everybody curriculum, participants became more aware of proper measuring techniques using measuring utensils; how to properly use a knife for food preparation; and food portion control. More lessons were taught on the My Plate eating plan; know the limits on salt, sugar, and sodium; how to budget and plan meals; reading labels, breakfast made easyand how to cook food safely.  

The class included eight (8) clients with a graduation rate of 100 %.  (75%) showed improvement in Diet Quality,  (78%) improved on food resource management (75%) improved on physical activity, and (91%) improved on food safety knowledge and skills.  

Participants stated “I will never eat food that has been on the table all night. I did not know that’s why I have had stomach issues.” I learned how simple it is to make a grocery list and pre-plan our meals so that my family can eat healthier and feel better.”
