FY18- Second Quarter Impact Statement

In Kentucky, 68% of adults are overweight. In Montgomery County, 78% of adults are overweight, 10% higher than the state average. (https://cedik.ca.uky.edu/sites/cedik.ca.uky.edu/files/montgomery ag food.pdf). These numbers are staggering and confirm the importance of nutrition education for the SNAP-Ed service area.

Kentucky State University Nutrition Education Assistant partners with Montgomery County Adult Education to help shed some light on the importance of eating healthy and how it affects not only weight, but overall health.

The Healthy Choice curriculum was presented to the clients at The Montgomery County Adult Education Center. The curriculum consists of lessons on cutting SOFA's, eating healthy on a budget, and healthy cooking. Several recipes were demonstrated and were offered to them to try. The SNAP-Ed assistant received a tremendous amount of positive feedback. Many participants later stated that they made the recipe at home or their families were trying a different fruit or vegetable. Physical activity was also mentioned by parents in class feedback. Several parents stated that they will incorporate physical activity with their children to eliminate TV time.
