According to the State of Childhood Obesity: Helping all children grow up healthy, In Kentucky, 23.8% of youth ages 10 to 17 have obesity, giving Kentucky a ranking of 1 among the 50 states and D.C.

This is such an alarming statistic as Kentucky’s percentage keeps growing.
The CES decided to be creative and find ways to get youth outdoors and moving. The CES decided to invent a 4-H Disc Golf Club for middle and high school students. The CES has recruited two adults that have experience and one who is a sponsored semi pro disc golfer. This club would meet once a month at a large field to learn the basics of throwing a disc and playing a course. The CES had the participants do some simple stretches to help warm up the muscles to avoid injury. Each meeting involves setting up a course around a soccer field to allow long distance walking to get the participants moving. The CES also talks about healthy nutrition to help with the pre and post meetings to help muscles stretch and recover.
One member was quoted as saying “this club is helping me with my social skills, make new friends, to enjoy fresh air, and gives me a reason and the skills to make healthy choices!”
