In a collaborative effort, Knott County 4-H, Knott Co Board of Education, Beaver, Carr Creek, Cordia, Emmalena , Hindman, and Jones Fork Elementary schools through their Family Youth Resource Service Coordinators participated in University of Kentucky’s 2021-22 “It’s Your Reality” program. The program focus is financial literacy and life skills for 7-12th grade students. Knott County’s 8th grade students take part annually in the event.
Results showed overall positive impact of knowledge gained:

Volunteers are essential to the program’s success. 53 KCCHS teen volunteers contributed combined total of 318 volunteer hours to the program. According to the 2021national volunteer rate, this is equivalent to $9,075 in-kind contribution to the program. Their impact on the program goes beyond monetary value. The effort and mentoring opportunity truly enhances the experience for everyone involved. Other community volunteers provided support, as well, for a successful learning opportunity.
