Plan of Work: Communications and Expressive Arts

Outcome: Initial Outcome

As we rise to the challenge of our new normal of life in a global pandemic, the role of art has become more central to our lives.  In a time of uncertainty, people of all ages are struggling to find ways to be connected. This is a time to value the arts. High –tech communication has lost its luster as the pandemic lingers on.  Art allows us to communicate from afar, generating positivity, appreciation and hope during COVID-19. Globally, we have turned to art ebengagement as a source of comfort and strength. https://www.artworkarchive.com/blog/why-we-need-arts-in-times-of-crisis.  The Gallatin County 4-H Council offers several art classes for children of all ages both at school and at the Gallatin County Extension Office.  Several parents and volunteers saw the work of their children and asked for an outlet for adults.  Because we do not have an FCS agent at this time, I am offering a painting class for homemakers and the community. The class continues to grow that now has a waiting list.    I have also collaborated with the Family Resource Center to offer a painting class for the GrandLove class (grandparents raising grandchildren).  Approximately 16 adults attend the painting class and 10 grandparents attend the GrandLove class.  Gallatin County also collaborates with the Family Resource Center to offer a project club (4-H is Fun) where children learn acrylic painting techniques.   There are two painting classes at the schools to encourage  collaboration among the teachers with approximately 25 teachers/staff attending.   We encourage both 4-H members and adults to enter their paintings in the county fair.
