What is Cook Wild Kentucky?

Cook Wild Kentucky was developed in partnership with the University of Kentucky, Feeding Kentucky, KY Hunters for the Hungry, Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources and Kentucky Department of Agriculture. This program was developed in response to food pantry participants being hesitant to accept ground venison donations, because they were unsure of what to do with the meat and how to cook it properly. What started out as simple wild game recipes has turned into a multifaceted program that includes: 34 wild game recipes, annual agent trainings, a publication series (soon to be two!) and a diverse set of partnerships between the University of Kentucky and community & state organizations. This list does not even begin to mention the individual ways that Extension Agents and Assistants have used these resources to put on county programming across the state.  We have watched the program grow and expand each year and continue to see excitement and involvement all over the state. To view Cook Wild Kentucky recipe cards, please visit planeatmove.com.   ANR agent in Whitley County supplied venison, turtle, squirrel, turkey, fish, beaver, and raccoon for recipe development and testing.  Recipes have been used by ANR agent on social media, newsletters, and in classes presented in Whitley and surrounding counties.
