One of the goals of the Nutrition Education Program (NEP) is to provide nutrition information to the residents of Kentucky. As a result of COVID-19, delivery methods for the NEP were altered drastically.”
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Jefferson County Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program Assistant contributed to the county in many ways. Educational resources were shared via emails and messaging apps like Telegram, with all of the groups that typically met in person for the Healthy Choices for Every Body nutrition education program. Using this technology, these groups were able to receive useful information about staying healthy during the pandemic, as well as nutrition resources and recipes.
Over 250 educational resources were provided throughout the community on a variety of topics including: handwashing, kids’ activities, nutrition information magazines and nutrition calendars. These were distributed at schools, food pantries, grocery stores, churches and family health centers. By expanding outreach and utilizing technology, the Nutrition Education Program was able to continue to reach its goal of providing nutrition education to the residents of Jefferson County.
