Major Program: Active Living and Health Promotions General

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

Expanded Food Nutrition Education Program Assistant (EFNEP) with the Hancock County Cooperative Extension office, was honored to partner with Amethyst, a rehabilitation home for ladies.  All the ladies agreed they all did not get enough exercise in a day.

As a group we discussed how physical activity was helpful to everyone, and 30 minutes a day was recommended by the USDA. The EFNEP added at the end of very lesson a reminder to be physically active.  The ENFEP also gave a helpful tip of ways to be active if it wasn’t an option at their home.   Such as, going up and down stairs, going to a community park to walk/bike. The ENFEP even discussed ideas for inside the home, such as squats, jumping jacks, dancing, even as simple as walking around a table.  There was many suggestions on how a person can be physically active.

As a result, 95% of the participants showed improvement in their physical activity.  There was improvements in all physical activity areas such as, exercising for at least 30 minutes a day, doing work outs to build and strength muscles, or making small changes to be more active.
