This past year the Franklin County 4-H collaborated with the Capital City Beekeepers Association to start a 4-H Youth Beekeeping and Bee Ambassadors Program. According to a 2022 analysis by the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Center for Violence Prevention, gun injuries are the leading cause of death among U.S. children and teens ages 1-19. With that in mind, it is imperative that gun safety is a priority to teach our youth. The migrant youth day camp was designed to provide a safe and inclusive space for young individuals from diverse backgrounds. Cultivating a sense of belonging, the camp fostered an atmosphere of respect, empathy, and cultural understanding. Taylor County youth are “buzzing” with new 4-H club. Beekeeping has sparked an interest with youth and adults alike. Youth are excited and fascinated learning about bees and how they make honey.
