Savor the Flavor: Building Flavor with Herbs

Research shows that people who prepare and cook meals at home are more likely to eat the recommended fruits, vegetables, lean meats, and whole grains needed in a balanced diet. Building skills and cooking knowledge increases the likelihood that people choose to prepare home-cooked meals.To encourage more home-prepared meals, the Martin County Extension Office hosted the workshop Savor the Flavor: Building Flavor with Herbs. "His Garden" Breaks Ground

Turkey Church of the Nazarene turned the soil for their community garden, “His Garden,” in April 2022. His Garden at Turkey Creek Church of the Nazarene had their first produce distribution today, July 30th. The church gave away 35 bags of beans, 35 bags of potatoes, 42 bags of corn and other miscellaneous vegetables. 2 Mile Summer Dash

The Martin County Extension Office partnered with the Martin County Public Library to host the “Summer Dash” a 2 mile physical activity event on August 5th. The UK CDC HOP grant funded the event, and provided a free shirt, lanyard, tumbler and various items. According to City-Data.com only 54% of Martin County citizens have a high school diploma, 37% live in poverty and only 25% hold jobs. Of the people employed, the median household income is only $21,859 compared to $40,267 for the state of Kentucky.
