Situation:

Due to Spencer County being known as one of the fastest growing counties in Kentucky, we, Extension Council and agents, realize the need to develop community leadership.

Long-Term Outcomes:

Increase the number of local residents participating in county wide, regional programs, and activities.

Intermediate Outcomes:

Spencer County residents will actively participate in programs through the Extension Service and other community groups.

Initial Outcomes:

Residents will identify local areas of interest that they can become involved in. Extension leadership will provide a variety of training that residents will use to support county activities and programs that seek their interest.

Evaluation:

Outcome: Volunteer Development

Indicator: Number of Volunteer Lead Classes/Programs/Clubs.

Method: Observation/Surveys.

Timeline: July 2024 – June 2025.


Outcome: Homemakers with various groups. 

Indicator: Number of hours of service.

Method: Observation and Pre/post surveys.

Outcome: Council Development

Indicator: Development of council committees.

Project or Activity: Community Classes (EM, BR, MT)

Content or Curriculum: Facilitators develop their own materials to teach the residents of Spencer County in individual classes.

Inputs: Extension Council, Extension District Board, University of Kentucky Specialists, Family Resource Youth Service Center, Multipurpose Community Action, Spencer County School System, Master Clothing Volunteer, Local Producers, Homemaker’s, 4-H Members, Leaders, Volunteers, Spencer County Chamber of Commerce.

Project or Activity: Teen Conference, State 4-H Boards, 4-H Camp, Teen Summit, Kentucky Volunteer Forum, Volunteer Certification Training. (MT)

Content or Curriculum: Leadership Development for Middle School and High School students, as well as 4-H Volunteers.

4-H Summer Camp is More Than Fun and Games

A typical 5-day 4-H Camp session offers upwards of 96 hours of direct, uninterrupted contact between youth and their cabin leaders/counselors.  That’s the equivalent of a family sitting down at the dinner table for 30-minutes, 192 days of the year.  The interactions offered in a residential camp/group living setting is so important to youth.
