Situation:
48% of the land in Kentucky is classified as forestland, which is an astonishing 12.4 Million acres of forest!
88% of that beautiful, forest land is privately own and privately managed.
With these staggering statistics comes a responsibility to educate farmers and land owners in order to ensure best management practices, top timber prices for land owners and bring conservation awareness to the citizens of eastern KY.
Long-Term Outcomes:
Conserve Kentucky water ways and Hardwood forests
Protect Natural ecosystem and wildlife
Preventing erosion and protecting watersheds in order to ensure clean water to utilize for livestock and human consumption
Intermediate Outcomes:
Farmers and Forest owners will become educated on proper Forest Management techniques to prevent erosion
Farmers and Forest land owners will learn tree identification and the value trees in their forest
Farmers and forest land owners who want to manage their timber will have the information and understanding to manage their timber and get competitive prices for that timber.
Initial Outcomes:
Educate Farmers and Landowners how to properly manage their forest land and the importance of hardwood forest, and watershed conservation.
Begin Best Management Practices on Private forest lands to help ensure a health forest system.
Educate farmers and landowners of what type of forest land they have and get a forest stewardship plan start on their forest land
