Financial security of Allen County families and individuals continues to be the most critical priority issue identified by community leaders’ needs assessments. Specific issues identified include lack of financial literacy, lack of retirement planning and consumer resource management. Allen County’s 2013 median income is $39,798, substantially below Kentucky’s median income of $43,307. The continued lack of employment opportunities or underemployment situations, coupled with increased living costs , demand higher consumer skills in resource management and financial planning for sustaining quality of life.
