The Pike County Extension Council identified music and arts diversification, handcrafted artisan awareness and expanding arts to the community as a need for the county. There has been a sharp decline in the arts program in our schools. We are committed to educating and empowering citizens through the arts as well as enhancing the community and economic development of our communities through arts programming.
Increase in essential skills for students and adults: critical thinking, problem-solving, and responsibility. Increased attendance in arts activities. Increase in leadership skills. Increase in tourism. Communities will gain public art installations.
Increase in knowledge of music, dance, drama, and/or visual arts. Increased attendance in arts programming. Increase in knowledge for artists in marketing and finance.
Increased awareness of arts programming. Business support of events. Word of mouth and marketing of events increases. Family participation increases in events.

Artists Collaborative Theatre (ACT) was extremely proud and excited to announce its return to the stage after sixteen months of being dark due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Pike County Extension Fine Arts and ACT has long had a close partnership with productions and kids classes. During the summer, ACT staged Blood Song: The Story of the Hatfields and the McCoys at Jenny Wiley Amphitheatre for three weekends. 865 people attended the play. Major Program: Increasing Access to Quality Arts Experiences
In 2021, the Pike County Extension Council identified cross program collaborations as an important need of our county office for the citizens of Pike County. Pike County Fine Arts worked to fill this need in multiple ways.Fine Arts held a pumpkin patch for kids during the fall at the farmers’ market. Thirty pumpkins were purchased from local farmers. In Fall of 2021, Pike County Extension Fine Arts began working with The Appalachian Center for the Arts and Pike County Housing Authority to plan and apply for a grant through the Kentucky Arts Council. The grant, Arts Access Assistance: Creative Aging and Lifelong Learning, aims to support quality arts programming for underserved populations in the Commonwealth in environments where arts are not the primary emphasis. On Saturday, June 18th, Pike County Extension Fine Arts joined with local community organization Pikeville Pride for a fun, colorful day together. A “Pride Picnic” was held that drew over 300 people to Pikeville City Park from around the region, including West Virginia, Ohio, Tennessee, and beyond. Pike County Extension Fine Arts teamed up with local artists to offer a popular warm weather series: Art on the Plaza. On Saturdays from late spring through early fall, participants can sign up to take part in an outdoor art activity in downtown Pikeville.
