Situation:

Today's youth are growing up in a world where everything is at their fingertips or, more specifically, the touch of their fingertips. Youth just need to tap their touchscreen phones or computers to have access to anything and everything, from social networks to shopping. There are negative and positive aspects of this technological age, creating a need for youth to learn proper communication skills, how to live a healthy lifestyle, and how to use available technologies to better their lives.

Long-Term Outcomes:

Youth of Owen County will develop and have science, engineering and technology skills that will increase self-awareness and self-esteem. Youth will put these skills to use in their careers.

Intermediate Outcomes:

Students of Owen County Schools will practice communication skills through communications contests and leadership positions in other school and 4-H clubs.


Initial Outcomes:

Owen County students will learn about public speaking and other communication skills.

Youth will gain an overall understanding of 4-H Youth Development and what all is offered and available to them through this program.

Evaluation:

Initial Outcome: Owen County youth will develop communication skills with others

Indicator: Reported growth

Method: Pre/Post-evaluation

Timeline: Immediately following program (2020-2024)


Intermediate Outcome: Owen County youth will participate in county communications contest 

Indicator: Increased numbers in Speech and Demo Contest

Method: Observation

Timeline: End of spring (2020-2024)


Long-term Outcome: Owen County youth will develop life skills that will help them to become productive citizens 

Indicator: Number of youth going to college or gaining careers in a related field

Method: Observation and number of alumni returning to volunteer as adults

Timeline: 5-10 years

Long-term Outcome: Youth will learn the importance and skills of record-keeping

Audience: Owen County Youth

Project or Activity: 4-H Record Book Training

Inputs: Record books for various projects.  FCS Agent, 4-H Agent, ANR Agent, Program Assistant, NEP/SNAP assistants

Date: September --May  (2020-2024)


Initial Outcome: Owen County youth will participate in an activity to help make them aware of their choices  

Audience: 8th Grade Students

Activity: Reality Store

Content: Welcome to Reality

Inputs: MBMS, Owen Electric, Youth Service Center, Citizens Union Bank, Adult Ed, Farm Bureau, Local realty services. FCS Agent, 4-H Agent, ANR Agent, Program Assistant, NEP/SNAP assistants

Date: Fall (2020-2024)


Initial Outcome: Owen County youth will be challenged to step outside of their comfort zone and build communication skills

Audience: Owen County Youth, 9-14

Project or Activity: 4-H Summer Camp

Content or Curriculum:

Inputs:  FCS Agent, 4-H Agent, ANR Agent, Program Assistant, NEP/SNAP assistants, Volunteers, Teen Leaders, Community Sponsors

Date: Summer 2020-2024


Initial Outcome: Owen County youth will grow and develop their communication skills 

Audience: Owen County Youth Ages 9-19 interested in Communications

Project or Activity: Written/Oral Speech and Demonstrations Contest, 4-H Communications Club

Content or Curriculum: 4-H Communications, 4-H Speak Up

Inputs:  FCS Agent, 4-H Agent, ANR Agent, Program Assistant, NEP/SNAP assistants, Volunteer Judges

Date: Spring (2020-2024)


intermediate Outcome: Owen County youth will learn about agriculture and farm safety and teach their family 

Audience: Owen County Middle School 6th Grade

Project or Activity: Farm Safety Day & Ag Education Day 

Content or Curriculum: Progressive Agriculture Safety Day, UK Extension Curriculum

Inputs:  FCS Agent, 4-H Agent, ANR Agent, Program Assistant, NEP/SNAP assistants, 6th Grade Teachers, FFA Advisors, and Members, Community Volunteers

Date: Spring (2020-2024)


Initial Outcome: Owen County youth will develop communication, motor, and locomotor skills  

Audience:  Youth Ages 5-8

Project or Activity:  Cloverbuds Club

Content or Curriculum:  4-H Curriculum

Inputs:   FCS Agent, 4-H Agent, ANR Agent, Program Assistant, NEP/SNAP assistants, and Volunteers
