Leadership 4-H Core Curriculum
Due to Spencer County being known as one of the fastest growing counties in Kentucky, we, Extension Council and agents, realize the need to develop community leadership.
Increase the number of local residents participating in county wide, regional programs, and activities.
Spencer County residents will actively participate in programs through the Extension Service and other community groups.
Residents will identify local areas of interest that they can become involved in. Extension leadership will provide a variety of training that residents will use to support county activities and programs that seek their interest.

Major Program: 4-H Youth Development Programming
As our society becomes more globalized it is imperative that as non-formal educators we provide opportunities for youth to engage in activities that will expand their worldview. In 2017, Kentucky 4-H hosted fourteen youth and one adult from the Japanese LABO Program through the States’ 4-H International Program. Japanese youth are paired with an American youth to spend four-weeks immersed in American culture. At the end of the four-week experience 100% of the Japanese youth reported that t

Major Program: Communications and Expressive Arts 4-H Core Curriculum
Spencer County Schools and Spencer County 4-H partner together to provide Elementary 4-H School Club Programs for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. Communication is the key component to this program. At every meeting or enrichment, all students are required to communicate with their classmates by participating in the activity where they say their name and something about them self. Throughout the year, it is the goal of the 4-H Agent to make each student more comfortable with public speaking

Volunteers play integral roles in 4-H programs, performing a variety of duties, functions, and tasks and possessing varied and rich knowledge, skills, and backgrounds (Radhakrishna & Ewing, 2011). The success of Extension programming is due, in part, to the dedication of a large cadre of volunteers (Smith, Dasher, & Klingborg, 2005). Although highly valued, volunteer involvement does not guarantee achievement of Extension's goals and fulfillment of learners' needs (Bolton, 1992).
