4-H Family and Consumer Science Core Curriculum
Due to Spencer County being known as one of the fastest growing counties in Kentucky, we, Extension Council and agents, realize the need to develop community leadership.
Increase the number of local residents participating in county wide, regional programs, and activities.
Spencer County residents will actively participate in programs through the Extension Service and other community groups.
Residents will identify local areas of interest that they can become involved in. Extension leadership will provide a variety of training that residents will use to support county activities and programs that seek their interest.
Outcome: Volunteer Development
Indicator: Number of Volunteer Lead Classes/Programs/Clubs.

Content or Curriculum: Facilitators develop their own materials to teach the residents of Spencer County in individual classes.

Major Program: 4-H Volunteer Programming
Volunteers play integral roles in 4-H programs, performing a variety of duties, functions, and tasks and possessing varied and rich knowledge, skills, and backgrounds (Radhakrishna & Ewing, 2011). The success of Extension programming is due, in part, to the dedication of a large cadre of volunteers (Smith, Dasher, & Klingborg, 2005). Although highly valued, volunteer involvement does not guarantee achievement of Extension's goals and fulfillment of learners' needs (Bolton, 1992).

Major Program: 4-H Youth Development Programming
Due to Covid-19 the Spencer County Extension Agents had to learn how to change our ideas on programming to reach our community. FaceBook Live, FaceBook, and the office website have served as tools to make the pavilion projects to go a huge success in Spencer County.Over 2,000 projects have been given to members of the community through the pavilion projects. 950 kits have been distributed to students through our partnerships with Taylorsville Elementary School, Spencer County Middle

UK Extension’s Master Horseman is a multiple-session program that can be tailored to the needs of county horse operations. In November-December 2019, this program was offered to participants in Oldham, Henry, Shelby, Spencer, and Trimble Counties. Our four-session program covered Pasture Management and Grazing Management; Feeding and Nutritional Disorders; Health and Vaccinations; Facility Design and Management; and Basic Equipment Needs.
