Fewer chronic diseases and fewer overweight or obese youth were identified as the most important issues that can be directly impacted by the educational programs and support of the Extension Service in the 2019 Boyle County Extension Community Assessment. Disease status and weight are both negatively correlated to a lack of physical activity. Kentucky consistently ranks near the bottom among the states in the level of physical activity performed by adults (CDC 2015). The percentage of local adults reporting no physical activity in the previous month was 23% despite 62% of county residents having access to opportunities for physical activities. More than 3 of 4 Boyle County adults are overweight or obese (BRESS). The Boyle County Extension, 4-H, and Extension Homemaker’s Councils have all requested additional Extension programming to encourage physical activity for all ages.
