Situation:

Situation:  The reason statewide needs identified substance use prevention and recovery as the most urgent priority for Cooperative Extension.   Moreover, substance use was the focal point of the Regional Interagency Council meetings in 2019-2020, Homemaker Council Meetings in 2018-2020 and CES Advisory council Meeting in 2019. Substance abuse is facto the number one factor of Relatives and Grandparents Raising others children.

 

Kentucky, along with many other states in the nation, is facing a silent epidemic. The non-medical use and abuse of prescription drugs is a severe problem in many areas of the state, but the general population remains largely unaware of the issue. The truth is that, according to the Attorney General, Kentucky has the sixth highest overdose rate in the country. Rowan County is no different; Substance use has been the focal point of many of our council meetings.

*The prevention and/or reduction of substance use and its related consequences.

*Changed-public perception of substance use via stigma re disposal, duct ion. Kentucky, along with many other states in the nation, is    facing.

*Reduced stigma from local community members

*Increased Opioid Stewardship (less rx ing by doctors, appropriate Rx disposal etc

*Delayed age of first use among Kentucky youth

*Increased ability to use destigmatized language

Initial Outcome: Community of Rowan County will have the impacted through their families safety and health.

Indicator: Local clients and leaders will work together to solve current and future issues that may occur.  Clients will feel the sense of ownership to their community.

Substances Abuse is taking over our families across our state, we are able to say that there is no family that has been missed or without being touched in some way with substance abuse.  In Rowan County, we have several rehabilitation centers working with clients trying to help these clients get back on the right track of life.   One of the work programs they offer clients in our county is to education clients on getting healthy again.The Rowan County Agriculture Instructor, FCS and AN
