Situation:

Volunteers are critical to most communities in our society today. Many community organizations, causes and events rely on individuals who provide services without monetary compensation. This is especially true for the Greenup County Extension Service. Volunteerism is an activity or experience that not only contributes significantly to recipient organizations and the community, but also benefits the health and development of the individual volunteer. Volunteering has been found to improve leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, increase knowledge, and develop organizational and managerial skills.

Long-Term Outcomes:

Adults and youth will utilize the leadership skills gained through training and involvement in Extension programs to serve as leaders in 4-H, Extension, and outside organizations. Recruitment of new extension volunteers for program delivery.

Intermediate Outcomes:

Adults and Youth will engage in identifying community issues and needs to develop services to meet those needs. Citizens will use communication skills to effectively communicate with peers, family and community leaders. Adults and Youth will acquire leadership skills to teach and serve in leadership roles.

Initial Outcomes:

Adult and Youth will learn how to:
Identify community assets and develop a plan to affect community change.
Public speaking and communication skills.
Effective team management and teamwork practices.
Proper meeting format including Robert Rules of Order.

Evaluation:

Outcome: Initial
Indicator: Increase of Communication Day Participants, and an increase of volunteers on Extension Councils. Establish a Extension Marketing Committee.
Method: Review Sign-in sheets and registration from council meetings. Follow officer rotation protocol
Timeline: Ongoing through the 4 year Plan of Work



Outcome: Intermediate
Indicator: Increase in leadership roles and programs offered by Extension
Method: Have more volunteer lead council meetings and programs
Timeline: Ongoing through the 4 year Plan of Work



Outcome: Long-term
Indicator: Extension programs continue to see an increase in volunteer leadership.
Method: Program council meetings will focus on volunteer initiated programs.
Timeline: Ongoing through the 4 year Plan of Work
