Situation:

According to the Centers for Disease Control more than 43% of Elliott Counties 7,508 residents are obese with 78% of the population being overweight. Quickfacts.org reports 14% of the population has been diagnosed with diabetes and 42.8% report they get little to no exercise. Findings of the CDC say that if current trends continue, by 2050 one in three people will be diagnosed with diabetes. They also report a loss of 10 pounds can help prevent or delay the onset of diabetes. These staggering statistics encouraged the FCS council to identify health and physical fitness as a major program emphasis for the FCS extension program. According to the Kentucky State Police 2018 Crime in Kentucky Report there were 131 drug or narcotic offenses and 124 drug arrests in Elliott County. 

Long-Term Outcomes:

During the 2020/2021 reporting year, 40 people in Elliott County will improve their health.


100 middle school students will know the consequences of prescription drug use.

Intermediate Outcomes:
50 people will work toward accomplishing goals set in programs and activities conducted by the Elliott County Cooperative Extension Service FCS programs

All Elliott County Middle School students will devise ways they can say no to prescription drug use and practice doing so.
Initial Outcomes:

60 people will attend Health related educational programs sponsored by the Elliott County Cooperative Extension Service FCS programs, report learning crucial information for improving health and set goals


All Elliott County Middle School Students will participate in Truth or Consequences

Initial Outcome: 60 people will attend Health related educational programs sponsored by the Elliott County Cooperative Extension Service FCS programs, report learning crucial information for improving health and set goals

Indicator:

Method: Pre and post surveys and conversation about program and what they have learned

Class room attendance and attendance at culminating event.

Timeline: 2020/2021 reporting year


Intermediate Outcome: 50 people will work toward accomplishing goals set in programs and activities conducted by the Elliott County Cooperative Extension Service FCS programs


All Elliott County Middle School students will devise ways they can say no to prescription drug use and practice doing so.

Practice of students saying no to peer pressure to use drugs.
