Situation:

Unsolved worldwide social problems need to be addressed by Kentucky youth and adults.

In the US, shortage of scientists & people understanding natural resource stewardship

Under-representation of women and minorities in NR careers

Need a diverse pool of trained scientists to frame and solve problems & educate others.

General population in the US (& worldwide) lacks basic understanding of environmental resources and climate change

Increase in careers featuring Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics

Kentucky is still in the bottom 25% in health well-being

Long-Term Outcomes:

Increased awareness of NR among youth

Improved NR skills (scientific methods) and knowledge (content areas) among youth

Increased awareness of social problems that could be addressed in NR stewardship

Increased life skills (self-efficacy) among youth in NR awareness

Increased number of youth selecting science related fields (Natural Resources along with Family Consumer Sciences and STEM related fields

Intermediate Outcomes:

Increased awareness of NR among youth

Improved NR skills (scientific methods) and knowledge (content areas) among youth

Increased awareness of social problems that could be addressed in NR stewardship

Increased life skills (self-efficacy) among youth in NR awareness

The Environmental Education program takes elementary students to a camp setting that is a positive outdoor experience. Making healthy choices

Major Program: 4-H Family and Consumer Science Core Curriculum

Bullitt 4-H offered healthy eating lessons for 16 elementary school classes. Our objective for the program was to stress the importance of healthy foods. We did this by creating Healthy journals for the students to fill out during the month. We had the students read the book Eating the Alphabet out loud to the class.  The students were asked to name some healthy foods. Agriculture Grab and Go Bags

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the social distancing guidelines from our state and national public health entities, many in-person extension programs were not able to continue in the spring and summer months of 2020.
