The majority of farmers in Wolfe County are part-time. Most split their acreage between livestock (mainly beef) and hay/pasture land, with some crop land. There is a need for education in water quality as it relates to livestock production and general farming practices (pesticide, herbicide, and fertilizer use)and overall environmental stewardship.
There is also a need for educating land owners on how to maintain their forested land and utilize it through conservation practices.

On October 12, 2018, the 2nd Annual Farm Safety Field Day was held at the Community Park in Campton. This is a joint effort between the Wolfe Co. Extension ANR Program and Wolfe Co. Farm Bureau. Topics covered this year included: KY's Agribility program, farm stress, pesticide/chemical safety, food safety on the farm (healthy snacking), fire prevention, and preparing equipment for winter.Those in attendance received received a lot of information about the proper use and storage of various ch

A local hunter had approached the Extension Office about how to properly field dress and process a harvested deer. After talking with others in the community, it was determined that there would be an interest in having a class taught by Dr. Gregg Rentfrow from the UK Meats Lab. The class was held during bow season in November, but just before modern gun season. We worked closely with the hunter that inquired about the class to obtain a "fresh" deer, but he was unable to harvest a deer.
