Situation:

Fayette County experienced a decline in job growth of .67 so with this comes the challenges of consistently restructuring or the existing community and economic idea to sustain growth outside of the changing population. The issues of available work, housing, resources, and the Fayette county is projected to have a 32.7 percent job growth. To combat those issues, the Cooperative Extension Service wil examine programs within the realm of workforce preparation, fostering entrepreneurial development, agriculture sustainability and expansion, decreasing barriers for the implementation of new business, seeking out new business solutions to the current economic issues, community involvement, and examining new and creative ways to develop a sense of community.


Long-Term Outcomes:

Improve the economic situation and build a greater sense of community in Fayette County

1) Youth and Adults will become more motivated to succeed.

2) Youth and Adults will develop skill to improve quality of life.

3) Families will learn to become better support systems.

4) Youth and Adults will make safer lifestyle choices.

Intermediate Outcomes:

Residents will increase practices related to Community and Economic Development by increased participation in job preparedness programs, involvement in local community events, developing new jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities, attaining and practicing current job search strategies, and adopting fiscally responsible behaviors.

Initial Outcomes:

Change Knowledge, Opinions, Skills, and / or aspirations in understanding of issues related to local foods, individual and market gardening, nutrition based on local food access, farmer's markets and preserve and enhance farm income.

Evaluation:

The Central Kentucky Job Club is a collaboration between the University of Kentucky (UK) Fayette County Cooperative Extension Service, UK Alumni Association , UK Human Resources Staff Career Development, local government and business community. The purpose of Job Club is to provide a positive environment for motivated job seekers to meet, connect, share and learn. Kentucky Beef Conference

Agriculture Development Program

Since the passing of the tobacco buyout, tobacco production has declined significantly. Cooperative Extension Service was given the responsibility to create and facilitate the 9 members Ag Development Council. Elite Heifer Sale

Fayette and Scott County ANR Agents partnered to cover the needs of the Bourbon County Elite Heifer Sale in the absence of an ANR agent. Prior to the sale, agents divided and conquered to have a presence at the heifer screenings with Tim Dietrich, KDA marketing specialist, to ensure that heifers were bred, identified as natural- bred or artificially inseminated, tagged correctly, met pelvic size measurements, and were high enough quality to be consigned in the sale. Equine Farm and Facilities Expo

Over the past 12 years there has been a strong Equine Program working within the University Of Kentucky College Of Agriculture Food & Environment. Livestock Program

In 2018 Coventry Oak Elementary participated in a 4-H lesson focused on agriculture, specifically livestock. During this program leaders from the Fayette County 4-H Livestock Club brought sheep and goat to the school to educate the students and also to help encourage participation in the 4-H Club. On June 4th, 2019 we held a gardening day camp at the Fayette County Extension Office. This day camp was in partnership with one of our local elementary schools, James Lane Allen Elementary.
