The recent, local needs assessment as completed by the Healthy Choices, Healthy Communities Coalition, and the Greenup County Extension Council, has identified Substance Abuse and Obesity as the two top community issues for Greenup County.
Collaborating agencies will see a reduction in drug use and obesity reporting in the results from the KIP (Kentucky Incentives for Prevention) survey that is used in all local school systems as well as the BMI results from Health Department screenings.
As result of agency collaboration, community members of all ages will have the opportunity to learn about how they can make healthy choices in their current lives and in their future.
Collaboration between CEC, Agents, Program Councils, community agencies, schools, Health Dept, and elected officials, in order to unify programming planning across the county to focus on healthy lifestyle choices.

The most recent KY by the Numbers report states, a median household income for families in Greenup County is $42, 452. Greenup County is also one of many counties in Kentucky dealing with a high precedence of chronic disease such as heart disease and diabetes. In 2004 the Master Gardener organization created the first Farmers Market in Greenup County. This allows farmers to direct market their farm products to a local customer base. Consumers today want to purchase locally produced farm fresh products straight from the hands that grew it. Senior Citizens in Greenup County do not receive the Senior Citizens Farmers Market vouchers. Many of the surrounding counties receive these vouchers and are able to purchase produce and items f
