According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, volunteerism of Americans peaked around 30% in 2004. Today, that number is 25 percent. This leadership decline is also apparent in the agriculture community. The County Agriculture Investment Program (CAIP) continues to be a great program for the people of Jackson County. As of July 1st, for the 2018-2019 program, 140 producers were approved for $1440.00 each. Of the 140 producers, $201,189 has been spent on Agriculture improvement projects in Jackson County and were reimbursed for $76,009 through the CAIP program. The Margin Protection Program for Dairy producers (MPP-Dairy) was established as part of the 2014 Farm Bill and was generally very unpopular with dairy producers. The program was drastically changed in the 2019 farm bill and is now called Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC). DMC works very similar to MPP-Dairy, but offers higher coverage levels, lower premiums, and more overall flexibility.
