Hardin County Homemakers Make More than 1,200 Masks for Hardin County Schools

Planning Unit: Hardin County CES

Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association

Plan of Work: Activating Volunteer Leaders through Extension Programs

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

When First Lady Britany Beshear requested individuals make masks and donate them to their local schools in her "Coverings for Kids" initiative as schools began to open back up, the Hardin County Extension Homemakers got to work. They immediately took the pattern and organized an efficient material pick up and drop off system. Hardin County Schools brought fabric to the office, a group of Homemaker volunteers cut out mask patterns. Then individuals or clubs could come pick up as many pre-cut kits as they wanted. There was then a bin in the front foyer of the Extension Office for them to drop completed masks.

More than1,200 masks were donated in just around 1 month. Three different mask work days were organized and advertised for Homemakers to register to use our sewing machines at the office to make masks.

The Hardin County Extension Homemakers were awarded the Community Partnership Award from Hardin County Schools for their mask making efforts.
