Planning Unit: Entomology

Major Program: Farm Management, Economics and Policy

Plan of Work: McCracken County Commercial Agricultural Enterprises

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

With a recent nationwide renewed interest in local food production, information on homesteading practices have become a common request for many County Extension Service offices. Seeing a need for relevant, research-based information to be available to the public, area agents for Agriculture and Natural Resources in Caldwell, Calloway, Crittenden, Livingston, Marshall, McCracken and Trigg Counties, partnered to host the Small Diversified Farm series.

Through an interest survey, monthly educational programs were planned by the area agents to best meet the needs of local producers. These programs were conducted by agents, specialists and partners agencies. Topics have included: Marketing For All, Evaluating Your Farm’s Potential and Sustainable Vegetable Production and High Tunnels.

Currently, over 50 individuals have attended one or more of the sessions. Surveyed participants have indicated they have received educational benefit from the programs and plan to implement new practices learned in their operations.
