Poultry ownership continues to increase in urban and suburban areas of the United States. This has been seen in the Commonwealth of Kentucky as well. In past years, we have provided in-person poultry workshops in the counties targeting current and potential backyard poultry producers. It was not possible to hold in-person workshops during the COVID-19 pandemic, so we moved the workshops to virtual using zoom. We held four, one-hour webinars that were recorded and the recordings placed on YouTube. The topics included ‘Getting started with a backyard flock’; ‘Managing an egg-laying flock in your backyard’; ‘Disease prevention in backyard flocks’; and ‘Manure and dead bird management for backyard flocks.’ A total of 211 people attended the webinars live, of which 124 (58.8%) were female. The first webinar was held on Feb 11 and the recording has been viewed 66 times in the last five months. The second webinar, held on Feb 25, has been viewed 52 times. The third webinar held on Mar 11 has been viewed 7 times. And the fourth webinar, held on Mar 25, has been viewed 44 times in the last three months. I also created a Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/KentuckyPoultry) to highlight poultry extension activities specific to the state of Kentucky. It has over 650 followers of which 48% are women.
