Kids Baking Championship- A Sweet Success
As soon as this 4-H Agent saw the promo for the Food Network’s Kids Baking Championship- one Barren County 4-H member stood out, Haylin Adams. She was involved in the 4-H Cooking Club and loved to bake. Haylin is a shy, eleven year old who makes beautiful cakes, cookies and is always eager to try something new. She had started her own FaceBook Business of Haylin’s Sweet Spot to make extra money. This Agent passed the information on to her Mother and strongly encouraged her to apply for the TV Show. After a lot of conversations, interviews and baked items, Haylin was one of twelve youth from throughout the nation that was chosen for the Baking Championship Show. Being sworn to secrecy, this Agent gathered different recipes and baking techniques for her to master before the actual competition began. Each week, people all over Kentucky and the United States cheered for “the girl with the Southern accent”. So proud that Haylin finished fourth in the competition. She has spoken to numerous groups and gives 4-H credit for getting her involved in this exciting adventure.
In a local newspaper article Haylin stated that being on the show was a great experience. While on “Kids Baking Championship”, Haylin was asked what she would have done if she was named the winner. In true, down-to-earth Kentucky fashion, Haylin said she’d buy a show cow. While she didn’t win the show, her plans are taking shape.
“They used to be my neighbors…they have show cows, and so they’re going to let me go over there this spring and see if I actually want to do that,” Haylin said. “And if I do, then I think that I might get a show cow.” One of our Barren County 4-H Herd Handlers families, is giving Haylin the opportunity to see about another future dream coming true.
“It has been like amazing to have all of the support that I have,” Haylin said. “Everyone is kind of rooting me on and saying congratulations. Pretty much everywhere I go; people are telling me congratulations and good job, which is pretty cool.”
Success comes in many forms and for Haylin it has been gaining personal confidence, supporters, friends, learning new techniques, conquering challenges with grace equals a sweet success!!!
