Plan of Work: Increasing Financial Literacy Across the Life Span
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Financial management is a very important life skill. Many families do not prepare their children for this responsibility. Therefore, they are unaware of how to manage their dollars and can find themselves in debt. The Dropout Prevention and Volunteer Coordinator/Community Education Director invited Franklin Co. agents to participate in the Senior Skills Workshops for high school students. Due to Covid-19, workshops were held virtually. The FCS agent prepared a video using the Where Does Your Money Good materials. Approximately 90 students selected the video to learn how they can learn financial tools that can help them understand their money-related concerns, understand why it is important to begin now to set goals for earning, spending, and saving in order to ensure a successful financial future.
Evaluations show that students each student expressed their takeaways after viewing the presentation. Other students asked many questions that the agent will respond to individually. There is definitely a need for continuing financial literacy education at the elementary, high school, and college levels. The agent plans to partner with community schools to provide this invaluable experience to learn.
