Youth Garden Campaign

Planning Unit: Family and Consumer Sciences

Major Program: Horticulture, Consumer and Home

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

The Nutrition Education Program hosted a virtual Agent and Assistant training on May 13th 2021. This training was the kick-off of a Youth Garden Campaign. The campaign consisted of a compilation of new and existing resources, packaged together to encourage youth gardening over the spring, summer and fall months. New resources included eight social media graphics focused on each step of container gardening with elementary aged children. The existing resources included SNAP-Ed eligible youth garden curriculum and a garden survey for evaluation. 123 extension personnel attended the virtual training. Agents and Assistants were trained on both indirect and direct programmatic options, new social media resources, how to record programs in both WebNeers and KERS, how to access funds for programming, the expense reimbursement process, current gardening resources, and the evaluation survey. Through this campaign we grew to understand the continued need for youth gardening resources and trainings. We hope to be able to provide these to Agents and Assistants in the future.
