Kentucky Extension Homemakers Association Leadership Academy-I worked with the KEHA Leadership Academy planning committee to have a 2 day leadership academy in March 2020.   Over those 2 days we had 25 leaders from across the state attend and learn more about the following:  communication skills, leadership styles, parliamentary procedure, understanding personalities and accessing the future of their organization.  The 6 person planning committee plus 2 advisors that included myself worked hard to plan an academy that would encourage leadership and help them understand how to build for the future.  This time also included some bonding and participants getting to know each other with shared meals and working on their plan of work.  The idea was for each of these participants to return back home and develop a plan to complete in 12 months and complete at least 40 hours of volunteer hours.   This plan did not begin to happen because everyone returned and within one week we were shut down/closed for any in person meeting or events.   Most leadership positions were not electing new people and just asking officers to stay in until a normal meeting and election could be held.   The leadership academy did not  want everyone to worry and extended the time volunteer hours could be completed with a new deadline of May 2022.   Seeing how this group went from being so excited and wanting to keep the bond together I suggested to the committee the idea of leading a book club on leadership.   The committee agreed and after I read several I selected “Juggling Elephants”.   The group met over zoom for two different meetings and had discussions on how this book could be applied to them and their leadership positions.   From the survey 87% reported that the book club was an awesome experience.   100% reported the book helped them realize they are not alone in feeling overwhelmed.  100% reported being ready for new circles of leadership and how to retire some activities in their circles of work/life The committee suggested that since they had the funds and everyone enjoyed the first book we decided to do another book from the same author.   21 of the group met in person with the author on zoom in June as he led them in talking about leadership and how to mentor.    This group will meet again in April of 2022.
