Young people want to be engaged in positive activity that helps them develop a sense of responsibility and build self-esteem. The Kenton County Fair is a successful learning opportunity that enhances youth development using a hands-on approach. Kenton County Extension is committed to continued 4-H member participation in our Fair because of the opportunities to: • Extend each 4-H member’s (and volunteer’s) learning opportunities related to the specific project and development/enhancement of life skills; • Evaluate the level of each 4-H member’s accomplishments in both competitive and non-competitive events; • Recognize 4-H members; and • Showcase University of Kentucky Extension and Kentucky 4-H Youth Development. The Kenton County fair project building had 535 projects entered and judged this year at the county fair. 30 4-H volunteers came together to accept, judge and display projects in the 4-H building.  100 percent of the youth surveyed felt getting their projects reviewed and judged gave them a sense of accomplishment.  They felt very proud to have their items displayed for everyone in the county to have an opportunity to see what they accomplished in 4-H.  The youth also felt they had a sense of belonging and community volunteering at the fair.  They felt they had a voice and a part of something bigger than themselves. The Kenton County Fair is important part of our youth program and a important part of our youth’s learning process.
