Planning Unit: Animal and Food Sciences

Major Program: Beef

Outcome: Initial Outcome

The Beef Minutes Video Series originated during the COVID-19 pandemic as a means to continue engaging with beef producers and expand the presence of beef extension on social media websites and YouTube. This series includes videos from 5 extension faculty in the CAFE and is coordinated by Dr. Katie VanValin. The videos are designed to be short, yet informational videos addressing timely topics related to beef cattle production, and events or meetings that feature beef extension faculty. The videos also serve as a resource for county extension agents and are commonly shared by ANR agents to their county extension social media pages. Topics that have been covered throughout this video series include best practices for mineral supplementation, how to compare the economics of supplemental feed stuffs, use of ultrasound technology for determination of carcass characteristics in the live animal, and prussic acid in forages.

From July 1, 2020 – June 30, 2021 there have been 27 videos produced. The videos have been viewed 13,217 times on YouTube and Facebook. The series has been well received by both producers and county ANR agents.
