Outcome: Initial Outcome
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, McCreary 4-H Summer Camp was cancelled in 2020. In 2021, we were able to move forward with 4-H Camp while following Covid-19 guidelines, which included being limited to a 50% camping capacity. We were able to take 25 McCreary 4-H kids to camp, ranging in age from 9-15, along with two teen leaders and two adult leaders. We began advertising camp registration in April, and within two weeks most of our spots were filled. McCreary County had always traditionally camped at the JM Feltner 4-H Camping Center; starting in 2021, our camp location changed to Lake Cumberland 4-H Camping Center. We had several campers who had always camped at JM Feltner, but most of them were first-years. All of our campers adjusted well to the new location, the camp environment, the staff members, and the activities. While at camp, the kids took a variety of classes including high ropes, field games, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, arts, rifles, archery, and dance. We had 100% participation in every activity apart from high ropes, and almost all of them came away at the end having learned a new skill. We also received a lot of positive feedback from our campers and parents regarding the entire 4-H camp experience, with several stating that they wanted to come back next year. This was the first year at camp for both McCreary 4-H Agents, Tracie Goodman and Leah VanMeter.
