Garden in a Bag

Author: Shane Bogle

Planning Unit: Caldwell County CES

Major Program: Horticulture, Consumer and Home

Plan of Work: Local Commodities Provide Agriculture Income

Outcome: Initial Outcome

With the pandemic, all programming was cancelled or converted to a virtual format.  In an effort to stay relevant to the community and to stay interactive with clientele during times that in-person classes couldn’t be held, Caldwell County Extension put together 50 "Garden in a Bag" grab bags.  The bags contained: Gardening in Small Spaces, ID-128 Home Vegetable Gardening in Kentucky, Gardening calendar, CHOP CHOP-Eggs, vegetable peeler, garden gloves, cucumber and squash seeds and recipes for Zucchini Rosemary Pizza; Cucumber, Corn and Bean Salsa; Balsamic Veggie Pasta; Creamy Avocado Cucumber Salad.   Also included were garden bingo cards so families could incorporate movement and family interaction into their gardening activities. All 50 bags were picked up within a two day period.   The goal of this program was to utilize free resources we had been given, provide knowledge on gardening, keep clientele coming to the office, and act as a way to engage with the community during the trying times of a global pandemic.
