4-H Reaches Underserved Audiences through Collaborative Partnerships

Author: Kelsey Chadwick

Planning Unit: 4-H Central Operations

Major Program: Health

Plan of Work: Preparing Youth and Families for Successful Futures

Outcome: Initial Outcome

This year, Graves County 4-H has partnered with several organizations serving low-income and underserved populations in Graves County to offer Extension programming to youth outside the traditional 4-H audience. The 4-H Agent provided a STEM program to Big Grannie's Daycare Summer Care Program, Exploring 4-H and Home Envrionment virtual programs to CARDS After Hours 21st Century Program, Fashion Magic and Home Environment virtual programs to Mayfield High School LINKS Program, Christmas Assistance qualification videos and grab-n-go summer program bags for Mayfield FRYSC Programs, and grab-n-go Extension Program bags for the Graves County Public Library Bookmobile. In addition, the 4-H Agent partnered with the Graves County/Mayfield Migrant Program to offer a 4-H Global Education program during the Migrant Spring Break Remediation course and a 4-H Physical Activity program during the Migrant Summer Day Camp course. All of these opportunities were provided to youth in a collaborative effort to reach different populations across the county. These programs required a lot of flexibility throughout the year with the changing course of COVID-19, but the Graves County Extension Office was excited to work together to serve these groups despite traditional challenges in reaching these audiences and the ever-evolving changes brought on by COVID-19 restrictions.
