Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General
Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
The Johnson SNAP-Ed Senior started an online group with a combination of 9 parents and grandparents. The first 4 classes were done through Messenger Rooms. Grab and Go bags were made up in advance each week for the upcoming lesson. Each participant could pick up their bag at their own convenience. After the 4th lesson we were given the go ahead to have in person classes with the compliance of the Covid19 regulations and all were excited to attend.
Once we started meeting in person the ladies felt more open to share and discuss what they were learning and how they were using the information at home. Four of the ladies formed a walking group and invited all to join in. Along with the added activity and implementing the lessons, Know Your Limits, Meal Planning, and MyPlate in their daily diet plans. All reported they felt better and loved the new recipes as well. The ladies who were walking talked about losing at least 5 to 7 pounds each. One of the ladies stated that she was Pre Diabetic before joining the group, and had lost 12 pounds, and dropped her A1C from 6 to 5.6. She commented that she would continue her path to good health, thanks to the Healthy Choices lessons.
