Restrictions of the COVID19 pandemic gave many people more time at home and renewed interest in growing home vegetables for their family. With increased questions about growing a garden, the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Estill County ANR agent developed a Fall Victory Garden Grab-n-Go event. With assistance from the SNAP-Ed assistant, a SNAP farmer’s market mesh bag was assembled with gardening information and related incentive items to distribute to citizens first-come-first serve basis. The Grab ‘n’ Go event was publicized on our Extension Facebook pages. Fall Victory Garden Grab ‘n’ Go bag contained UK Extension publication ID-128 Home Vegetable Gardening in Kentucky, Preparing Your Garden SNAP publication, Healthy Choices newsletter, Farmers Market Shoppers Guide, August SNAP meal kit, garden gloves, several fall vegetable seed packets donated by FFA/Rural King, and Kentucky vegetable recipe cards. Of the fifty bags prepared, twenty-eight bags were claimed on the first day with remaining bags distributed at two other August distribution dates. Participants were pleased to get the seeds and educational information.
