Plasticulture Strawberry Herbicide Trial
Author: Shawn Wright
Planning Unit: Horticulture
Major Program: Horticulture, Commercial
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Planted a plasticulture strawberry herbicide trial at the Horticulture Farm in Lexington testing Chateau, Goal 2xl, and Devrinol all labelled for plasticulture strawberries. Growers hesitate to use Chateau because of the expense, but the trial showed that Chateau provided approximately 90% control of winter annuals compared to the control. Because of disease in one plot and hand weeding that had been done prior to data collection we could not determine statistically different differences between Goal 2XL and Devrinol. General impressions are that Goal was more effective than Devrinol. Data on yield has been collected but has not been analyzed to see if there was any effect of herbicide treatment on yields.
