Kentucky is one of nine states that is part of the Midwest Fruit Workers Consortium, the group that produces ID-36 Midwest Fruit Pest Management Guide. Discussions begin in 2019 at the annual meeting and it was decided that after many years it was time to update the production guide. This consisted of many Zoom meetings, conference calls and research to determine a more user-friendly way of presenting the information. I was responsible for coordinating all the herbicide recommendations for the guide which required a review of all current small fruit and tree fruit herbicide labels. Several older chemicals were removed as being less effective than newer chemicals and newer chemicals were included that are more environmentally friendly and potentially less toxic to the applicator. Initial reports from fruit growers are that the new revision is more user-friendly and may help them to reduce their costs and potentially increase their income.
