Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

With COVID 19 not only effecting regular school in Floyd County it also had a big impact on summer school. With so many student’s needing extra time to complete assignments the only alternative was summer school. The teachers not only wanted the student’s to learn but to have fun doing it. The school contacted the EFNEP Assistant at the Floyd County Extension Office and ask for help making summer school a success for the student’s. Together they made plans to work with the kids once a week for six weeks.

Materials were taken from MY Plate, Professor Popcorn and My Plate Bingo. The students were taught how important nutrition and exercise are to adolescents. While focusing on what our bodies need to function healthier. Using the nutrition education survey for K -  8th graders as a guide to determine the final outcome a pre-test was given at the beginning of the class. After teaching the nutrition classes once a week for six weeks the 42 students were given the post- test survey. The data that was collected and compared the pre-test and determined that 95% (40 out of 42) youth adopted and practice 1 or more food selection behaviors.
