During the COVID Pandemic, it was impossible for us to have any sort of in-person programming. This was a necessary action, but was detrimental to our program as a whole and the programs we offer throughout the summer. With the turn of a new year, there was hope for 2021 and the many 4-H programs we would be able to offer. Some of the programs that seem to have a great impact is the day camps we offer throughout the summer. These day camps have consisted of both 4-H and Cloverbud activities. 

For summer 2021, we decided to offer 2 Cloverbud Day Camps and 1 4-H Day Camp. The Cloverbud Day Camps consisted of a Nature Exploration in June and a Art Adventure in July. During our nature exploration, we had 12 youth attend, who learned about trees, insects, pollinators, birds, and so much more! They participated in a nature hike where they were tasked with a scavenger hunt and collecting leaves for leaf imprints. They also assembled bird houses, butterfly feeders, and bird feed ornaments. The art adventure has yet to occur, but has 14 youth registered and will cover an array of artistic components. 

The 4-H day camp was planned and implemented by our summer intern, Julia McCloud. This day camp covered 2 full days of photography. She titled it "A Day Behind the Lens" and opened it for youth ages 9-18 to register. There were 6 youth who registered for this day camp. On the first day, she went through and discussed how photography projects work for the Germantown Fair and State Fair and went over camera basics and different skills. We then drove around to different locations and allowed the youth to capture any thing that caught their attention that may possibly fit within a category. The second day consisted of printing their selected photos and gluing them onto the mat boards. They finished by typing their information for each photo and then taking a picture with their favorite project. These projects will all be entered into our county's rally day and then the Germantown Fair and State Fair. The hopes of this project was to increase the number of youth who participate in fair projects and it was a huge success. 

These day camps take many hours of preparation beforehand, but it is very well worth it in turns of increased participation and getting more kids involved in our programs and staying involved.
