WHY IS CARAMEL COLORING IN MY BREAD?

The Cooperative Extension Service in collaboration with Kentucky River Community Care presented a series of Nutrition classes to a group of 6 ladies, three of which were pregnant.  The nutrition classes were part of a parenting class for drug rehabilitation participants.

The EFNEP assistant in Perry County taught “Healthy Choices for Everybody”.  Meal planning, budgeting as well as preparing nutritious meals were among the topics covered.  The Reading Labels for Every Body lesson carried the most punch for this group.  Two of the six ladies stated that they have made reading product labels a regular practice when shopping for groceries, especially after finding out that some brown bread contains caramel coloring to turn the bread brown.
