Outcome: Initial Outcome

For two days in December, the Franklin & Woodford County CES hosted a Dutch film crew producing a documentary on the bourbon Industry in Central Kentucky, the Hertog Jan documentary . The eight member crew worked with a Frankfort production company, Joanna Hay Productions, which in turn contacted the ANR agents to site locations, make contacts and handle logistics. The production crew stayed in Frankfort for seven days shooting the 5-6, ten minute segments that will air on Dutch TV for a show revolving around sprits, wine and beer as a result of the Anne Stokvis bourbon/travel blog.

The estimated budget spent locally is around $250,000 which included hiring various sound, camera and drone technicians as well as food, lodging, equipment and vehicle rental etc. In addition, three representatives from a Holland brewery, Hertog Jan Brouwerij, attended in order to explore purchasing used barrels for a bourbon barrel beer line. The Franklin County agent teamed up with Woodford ANR to find host farms with corn fields, storage bins and farmers to discuss grain production for the bourbon industry, which is a niche market. Ultimately, Holland and connected parts of Europe will learn more about our bourbon industry, spurring potential tourism and increased sales for Kentucky.
